Sleep is allegedly a time for your body to rest, recharge, and renew, but you'd never guess that, the way many of us wake-up, with puffy eyes, dark circles, pillow creases, and new pimples. Here are a few quick fixes to take you from drab to fab in the morning:
Puffy Eyes
If you eat a salty dinner the night before or allergies strike, you can wake up to swollen, puffy eyes. Drink a big glass of water before bed and sleep on an extra pillow so extra fluids don't pool in your face.
For a quick fix in the morning when you're in a hurry, press the back of a chilled teaspoon onto your eyelids for a minute or two. When you're doing your makeup, opt for matte eye shadows in neutral shades instead of shimmery formulas that can highlight puffiness.
Dark Circles
You may have permanent dark circles under your eyes if you have exceptionally thin undereye skin that exposes the veins that lie just under your skin, or the shape of your cheek bones may give you extra shadows. Allergies and dehydration can also cause temporary dark circles. If you have thin skin around your eyes, find an eye cream that hydrates and builds up collagen to help thicken the skin.
To cover up dark circles in the morning, apply a thin layer of a good concealer. Tilt your head down a bit as you apply it to accentuate the shadows and pinpoint where you need to apply.
Pimples
Any number of things can cause pimples to erupt: a night cream that's too heavy and oily for your skin type, hormones, or lying on your face if you're especially prone to breakouts. To prevent breakouts, use a lighter night cream, tie the hair off your face, and try to keep your face off your pillow at night.
In the morning, apply a drop of tea tree oil, an antibacterial, to the blemish and then cover it with concealer, blending the edges well. To reduce swelling, wrap an ice cube in a washcloth and hold it on the blemish for a few minutes. Follow the ice up with a dab of hydrocortisone cream, which will also help reduce swelling.
