THE LOWDOWN ON YOUR HIGH HEELS

As your pregnancy progresses and you gain more weight, your pelvis changes shape and your center of gravity shifts, all of which cause you to be less stable on your feet. Teetering around on high heels will only increase your unsteadiness and could cause you to fall. Falls are more common during pregnancy and they have more potentially dangerous consequences, such as placental abruption, which can cause vaginal bleeding and put your baby and the pregnancy at risk. In addition, you'll probably be less comfortable in high heels as your pregnancy progresses, due to the extra weight, your aching back, and swollen feet.

Many experts recommend putting your heels in the back of the closet and donning a comfortable - and safe - pair of flats beginning around week 25. After all, what's more important: fashion or safety?

I love my heels but there are so many cute flat styles now so I wear them almost exclusively. When I do wear heels I take care to watch my steps so I don't stumble.

I agree with Ida, I like the way wedges feel and wear them alot. There seems to be a new "don't" every day! I'm now 51/2 months and just now starting to tune these things out and man, it feels better:)

Thank you Ida! I agree. This article is informative about the dangerous, but not about the options. Many expects recommend a low, sturdy heel because its better for the feet and lower back, alleviating a lot of the more common pregnancy pains without the potential of falling. I say: play it by ear each day. With the fact in mind that no two pregnant women are the same, I believe, and I always have, that we know our bodies best and our bodies know more than any "experts" what they need. Toss out the guides with all their debating advice and listen to your doctor and your body.

There's plenty of options between high heeled stilettos and flats. How about a comfortable wedge? It will provide much more arch support than flats and is still very safe. Is anyone else tired of articles that use scare tactics to intimidate pregnant women?
