The Perfect Pedicure

For fabulous feet without the time or expense of a trip to the salon, try these easy tips for a perfect at-home pedicure.

Proper foot care is a daily ritual that begins in the shower. Exfoliate and moisturize those tootsies every day to prevent calluses and smooth away heel cracks. Always follow up each shower with a generous application of rich moisturizer.

Begin your pedicure by removing old polish and clipping or filing nails straight across to just above the skin. Round the corners gently, but don't file or clip the sides as this can cause ingrown nails. Rub a drop of cuticle remover onto each nail and surrounding skin.

Soak feet in warm, soapy water for ten minutes, then use a scrub to exfoliate and smooth rough skin, rinse well and blot dry. Buff calluses with a pumice stone and push cuticles back gently. Massage with a rich moisturizer, then wrap in a damp, hot towel. When the towel cools, wipe nails clean with polish remover.

Apply a clear basecoat to nails, wait two minutes, then apply two coats of polish and one of clear topcoat to protect color. Kick back with a good book or your favorite gossip rag and let the topcoat dry for a full hour before slipping on socks or shoes.
