Become a Better Bruncher

Brunch is a wonderful time to kick back and relax, so before your little one comes, gather your girlfriends for a weekend morning of good food, a little gossip, and lots of laughter. Here are a few tips to keep it anxiety-free and fun.

Keep it Simple

Don't try to lay out a 5-course masterpiece of culinary delights. Remember, this is supposed to be an enjoyable experience for your guests and you. Choose a simple main dish you can make or assemble the day before and some fruit. Voila. Better yet, buy a dish from a gourmet market or deli and heat it up at home before everyone arrives.

Refreshing Refreshments

Mimosas and Bloody Marys are brunch menu staples and are sure bets. But since you can't partake of alcohol refreshments, try mixing sparkling water with your favorite fruit nectar for a decadent drink. If you want to offer your guests refreshments with a kick, try making a Kir Royale by mixing champagne and black currant juice, or a bellini with peach nectar and champagne. And always brew some caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee and tea with all the accoutrements (cream, sugar, lemon).

Self Serve

You don't need to wait on your guests hand and foot (you're pregnant, for goodness sake!) to be the perfect hostess. Simply stack the plates, arrange silverware in simple coffee mugs, and use decorative tea towels for napkins and let your guests serve themselves.

Relax

Turn on some mellow tunes, spread out the Sunday paper, and do what women do best: talk, laugh, gossip, and share.
