Using Bright Colors
with Care

This season's makeup is all about bright, fun colors; but the key is to use them correctly or you'll end up looking like a circus clown! For fair complexions, use just one or two layers of color; while darker complexions can hold up to more color without becoming overwhelmed. The following tips will keep your color in balance:

Eyes
You can wear just about any color you want if your shadow is sheer. The key is to apply it to your eye socket and up to the crease, but stay off the brow bone. But be careful what color you choose when lining your eyes. Red and purple tones will bring out any red in your eyes and skin tone, but blues and greens will give you a wide-eyed, sexy gaze.

Cheeks
Overly colorful cheeks can look garish, so stick with pale pinks or peach if you have fair skin and venture into deeper plum and wine if you are darker. Always blend from the apples of your cheeks, up to your temples. Creamy formulas are easier to blend, but powders will last longer. If you inadvertently go overboard with your cheek color, blot the area with a damp makeup sponge until you achieve the right tone.

Lips
To give your whole face a healthy glow, apply lip color in melon, berry, or tangerine, and choose a color that's one shade brighter than your natural lip color to complement without looking loud. And for the carefree days of summer, ditch your harsh lip liner, experts recommend. Stains or glosses will make your lips look lusciously kissable.
