Top 10 Tips
for Pregnant Skin

Most of the skin changes you experience during pregnancy will disappear after you deliver and your hormone levels return to normal. But it's still important to take special care of your skin all nine months and nourish yourself inside and out. The following ten tips will help you baby your skin:

  1. Check your beauty products - When you first find out that you are pregnant, check the products that you use every day. You might find that some products aren't safe to use during pregnancy. If you are at all concerned, switch to products that state they are suitable for use during pregnancy. If you need assistance, consultants are always ready to help at any beauty store.
  2. Avoid soap - Soap strips natural oils from your skin, so use a moisturizing body wash instead. This will help maintain the skin's essential oils and promote a healthy glow.
  3. Avoid long baths - Prolonged contact with water dehydrates the skin and can leave it looking dull. Use a moisturizing bath soak to re-hydrate the skin.
  4. Protect your skin - Skin pigmentation can change during pregnancy causing it to tan and burn much more easily. Find products with UV filters to protect your skin and apply it liberally and often to face, neck, and hands.
  5. Feed your skin - Skin cell death and growth is accelerated during pregnancy, so make sure you nourish and moisturize your skin more than normal to keep it looking healthy.
  6. Keep the belly moisturized - Skin is under a lot of pressure during pregnancy, especially in the abdominal area. Massaging your belly with a tummy cream such as cocoa butter will help keep skin supple and prevent itching and scratching, which can cause breaking of the skin (stretch marks).
  7. Don't water it down - After you shower, use a good moisturizing body lotion to keep skin in tip-top condition and to counteract the drying effect of water.
  8. Baby your face - Some women find that their skin becomes oilier during pregnancy. To help even things out, use a high-quality, pregnancy-safe facial cleanser and water-based moisturizer.
  9. Maintain balance - Use shower or bath products that contain extra moisturizing properties and are pH balanced. These should help maintain a healthy glow.
  10. Start from the bottom up - Feet can get tired and swollen in pregnancy. A refreshing foot gel with menthol will help pep you up at the end of a long day.
